more cake stuff

I had another dear friend graduate this december, but lucky for me she isn't moving (yet). Lindsay graduated with a master's degree in marriage and family therapy (and her husband is Lance's classmate). I had the honor of making her graduation cake. It was my first time carving and I had a blast! I can't wait to learn more!!! CONGRATS LINDS!!!
just a start

we ate these "scraps" for days...YUM!!

just to give you and idea of how tall this cake was. It was four cakes stacked on each other!! IT WAS MASSIVE!!!

chocolate cake, filled with chocolate ganache, dirty iced with chocolate buttercream, and topped with chocolate fondant, and PB M&M's. ohh, and I musn't forget my ingenious idea to roll up rice krispie treats and cover with fondant to make a pillow! I was so pleased with the outcome!

a therapist's couch!! LOVED IT!! I had so much fun making this. thanks to the cake boss for showing me how to steam a cake, although I used my iron instead of a steamer. AND, thanks to Lance for inspiring the buttons on the couch and for staying up night after night cleaning so I could focus on the couch. I think it took me 4 or 5 good long nights to make and assemble the completed project. I have so much to learn but am so excited for it!

THEN, after the holidays two of Lance's classmates got married, to each other. So, I had the opportunity to decorate her cupcakes. Thanks, Shannon for providing me with pics!!
I think I ended up making over 250 flowers. Hand cut and pieced together...I think this one took me about 6 hours or so....I learned A LOT doing this one!! I had some pretty edible glitter as well as the edible pearls. I think it turned out so cute! I had a few major meltdowns during this project so again thanks to Lance for all of your contributions (mostly for keeping the girls out of the kitchen for 2 days). Thanks to my cuz, Heather for all of the cake decorating tips! I am now a big fan of vodka, but wish to extend my warning for anyone trying to drive down Sandy on a Friday night after 8PM trying to find an open liquor shop...it's best to wait until saturday morning when they open at 10AM, take my word for it.

Friends eventually graduate

The thing about making friends when you are away at school is that eventually either you move away, or they do, or both. I love that we are getting closer and closer to the end but I HATE saying goodbye to dear friends!! We had TWO families graduate from our ward this past December and we had a little get-together to celebrate. We will miss you terribly! Good luck in your chiropractic endeavors!! p.s. thanks again, julie for making the cake! it was awesome!

Where to begin???

It seems as if my life has started running away from me. There has been many happenings between mid-December and now. YIKES! I have a lot of work to do. But never fear, family and friends, I will do my best to show you all the fun we have been having....

cheers!

O, Christmas Tree

the cub scouts were doing a fundraiser, so we opted to get a REAL tree for the first time in our married life! It's GORGEOUS!! and GINORMOUS! Notice that the ornaments only go down to a certain level. Lance laughed at that, but what choice to I have??

Winter

Marykaye, recognize the "pool"?? It's really a sand bucket that we filled with water to splash in over the summer. Somehow it didn't quite get emptied...OOPS!
