Quarterly Visit

It's that time again...

the girls and I are off to Arizona for some much needed sun and pool time.  Meanwhile, Lance will get to stay here for a bit working, his tail off at taking a million finals, and making sure my garden doesn't die, before he can join us.

Good Luck Babe!

Here comes the sun!

p.s. don't be surprised if there isn't an update for a least a few weeks

The tooth and nothing but the tooth

Pics to come at a later date (tomorrow?) But we have some great news! Kami finally has a tooth! Or rather, the top part of her tooth has erupted (that is the lingo). It is on the bottom on the left. I googled "teeth" and found this really interesting article here. I am going to copy it straight in, just to prove that our little wonder-child isn't off in her development, she's just pokey when it comes to her teeth (small joke). It is sharp though!

"... I was wondering what the usual sequence for teething is anyway. Well - as it turns out the good people of the "Journal of American Dental Association" already did some research back in 1974 to answer exactly that question.

Eruption Sequence of baby teeth (also called "Deciduous Teeth" or "Primary Teeth") in months after birth:
Teeth
Average "eruption" time (in months after birth)
1) Lower central incisor=8 months
2) Upper central incisor=10 months
3) Upper lateral incisor=11 months
4) Lower lateral incisor=13 months
5) Lower first molar=16 months
6) Upper first molar=16 months
7) Upper canine=19 months
8) Lower canine=20 months
9) Lower second molar=27 months
10) Upper second molar=29 months
Eruption time averages have been calculated among the general population (US). They are average values, so the variation can range ±6 months."

Funniest Thing

This is Lance.
Would you like to hear the funniest thing I heard all day? Well, here you go:
Out of Em's mouth, " Oh Good! I'm not diabetic, I have anemia! YES!!!"

Em will have to share the story at her leisure (which is never).

What's in a name?

OK, we have a name picked out that we like (but it is definitely not for sure), but we are having trouble with this little girl's middle name. I (Lance) like shorter names and due to the expanse of my last name, feel that this needs to be a consideration for the child's own good health. Our style of name tends toward the retro-yuppie, but we are by no means exclusive to that genre (especially as a middle name) and we enjoy bi-gender names as well as place names and important people names. I like names without too much alliteration (i.e. Marmaduke Melvin Mollenhauer or Aaron Alexander = yuck) but am not opposed to it if it fits ( Kamryn Melissa Mollenhauer). Em is easier than I am and is more worried about this child learning to spell her name before she turns 12 (such is the Mollenhauer-as-a-last-name curse).

So let us know what you think are some good names, and who knows, maybe you will be the lucky suggester!?!
thanks.

The Birthday Girl

Happy Birthday Kami!

We invited a few friends an our adopted family, the Lymans, over for cake and (homemade) ice cream. Stasia, our awesome babysitter, and Kami share a birthday so i made them each a small cake. Aren't they cute (the girls, not the cakes)??

Not bad for my second time working with fondant...but I really need to practice!

Never mind the water marks all over, I was trying to wash off the powdered sugar. Really, I'm scheduled to start the fondant class in a week or so...so more to come.

Kami at one year old. She is about 18 pounds, and such a lean girl. She RUNS everywhere and loves to make noise running on the tile. She LOVES her big sister and wants to do everything Gracie is doing whether it is playing, dancing, or going potty. She can say ma-ma, da-da, ba (ball), she's really good at parroting the sounds we say. For instance today I said raspberry and she said, "ra-be-ee" or when I get frustrated and say "arrrgghh" she replies with her own, "AAARRRRHHHH". She signs milk, more, please, binki, mom, and more. She loves to give high fives. She is a good sleeper, we can lay her down fully awake and she falls asleep on her own, even with Gracie in the same room too! She is totally a Daddy's girl (which has recently switched from Mom). She is a dancer, every time music comes on she is moving and grooving. She is good at following directions and bringing us things. She's learning to use her eating utensils, we think she'll be a righty. She is such a sweetheart. She is our little comforter. When Grace starts crying, Kami will walk up to her and pat her back and give her a big kiss. She's learned how to give real kisses and most of the time remembers to close her mouth. She waves and smiles at everyone we meet. We sure love our Kami! Happy Birthday our Little One!
